Join Us for the First Annual YoQL UNO Reading Challenge This June!

Okay friends, I am so excited about this one. Like, embarrassingly excited. Because this June we are doing something I have wanted to bring to this community for a while now and I cannot wait to see how much fun we have with it.

Introducing the very first annual Year of Queer Lit UNO Reading Challenge!

I first played this challenge in an old reading group of mine and it is hands down my favorite reading event they do all year. The moment I experienced it I knew I had to bring it to our community. It is creative, it is competitive in the most fun possible way, and it makes you read queer books you might never have picked up otherwise. What is not to love?

So how does it work?

At the start of June every player gets dealt two hands of seven UNO cards. Each card comes with its own reading prompt and your job is to read queer books that match those prompts throughout the month. Number cards, skip cards, wild cards, color cards, they all have their own rules and point values attached to them.

Here is where it gets really fun. If you blow through both of your hands before the month is up, you can be assigned another hand to keep going. Overachievers welcome and honestly encouraged.

At the end of June the player with the most points wins a book off their wishlist. And because we are a fair and chaotic community, if there is a tie we will draw names to determine the winner. May the odds be ever in your favor.

How do I join?

Simple! Join our Discord and watch for the sign up link inside. That is it. No complicated entry process, no fees, just you, your reading list, and a hand full of UNO cards waiting to send you somewhere unexpected in queer lit.

Sign ups will open in the Discord so make sure you are in there and ready to go before June 1. The challenge runs the entire month of June in honor of Pride Month and trust me you are going to want to be part of this from day one.
