Policy Update: AI Use in YoQL Events

As Year of Queer Lit continues to grow, we are clarifying our standards around AI use to ensure our promotions remain transparent, ethical, and respectful of creative labor.

This policy applies to all YoQL-hosted promotions, including book blasts, new release announcements, and other reader-facing promotional materials.

AI-Voiced Narration in Events

Year of Queer Lit does not include AI-voiced narration in any YoQL events.

This includes:

  • Book Blasts
  • New Release Announcements
  • Any YoQL-hosted promotional audio or video

If narration or voiceover is used, it must be:

  • The author’s own recorded voice, or
  • A human narrator with clear permission

AI-generated or synthetic voices are not permitted in YoQL promotional content.

AI-Generated Content in Promotions

While we recognize that many creators use AI tools for organizational support and accessibility needs, YoQL does not accept AI-generated content in events or promotions.

This includes:

  • AI-generated text presented as author copy
  • AI-generated images or graphics used as promotional art
  • AI-assisted content presented as original creative work

All YoQL events are expected to be human-created and authored.

Enforcement and Questions

Materials that do not meet these guidelines may be declined or removed.

If you are unsure whether your work falls within this policy, we encourage you to reach out before submitting materials. We are happy to clarify expectations in advance.

Why This Policy Exists

Year of Queer Lit exists to uplift queer creators, protect reader trust, and support ethical creative spaces. This policy is not anti-technology. It is pro-transparency, pro-consent, and pro-people.
